Whitchurch Wayfarers U17s v Plympton U17s
WHITCHURCH recorded a fine victory over arch rivals Plympton by 6 wickets.
Plympton elected to bat first and got away to a lightning start with 45 coming from the first 6 overs for no wicket. Richard Hall took the first wicket, that of Danny Harris, caught behind by Richard Freedman, and in so doing stemmed the flow of runs and restored some confidence to the Whitchurch attack.
Plympton continued at a steadier rate but still managed a respectable 132 for 9 off their 25 overs.
Plympton skipper Andy Smith top-scored with 53 before he was dismissed by a fine one-handed catch from Paul Dunstan off the bowling of Jude Rotton.
Dunstan made two more excellent catches to earn himself Whitchurch fielder of the match. Hall (2-10), Rotton (2-7) and Peter Freedman (3-15) were pick of the bowlers.
The Whitchurch reply got off to a steady start with 28 on the board for the first wicket in the ninth over, but hit a lean spell until Hall joined Freedman (24), albeit briefly, then in a more profitable partnership with James Aggiss.
Aggiss joined Hall with the score on 50 in the 15th over with a required run rate of 8 an over. The pair set about the Plympton attack putting on 53 in the next 6 overs before Aggiss was trapped lbw for 16, still leaving some work to be done.
Hall (43no) and Rotton (9no) saw Whitchurch home with 5 balls to spare.
Given the soaring temperatures, this was heroic stuff when there were only 8 boundaries in the entire Whitchurch innings.
Civil Service v Tavistock
AFTER winning the toss, Tavistock elected to field first. It was a disappointing performance by Civil Service scoring a total of 49-9. Best bowling figures for Tavistock was Rose (2-8) Luscombe (2-5) and Povey (2-11).
Tavistock made short work of reaching their total, losing only 2 wickets. Short (27) was the pick of the batsmen.
The only wicket takers for Civil Service were Conn (1-14) and Khakbzans (1-10). Tavistock won by 8 wickets.
Ivybridge V Whitchurch
EXCELLENT batting with Hall (104 no) Freedman (45) and Rotton (18no) saw Whitchurch reach 185-1 for their 25 overs.
In reply, Ivybridge could only reach 74 with best batting performance coming from Dyke (30no).
Robertson was the wicket taker for Ivybridge (1-11) and for Whitchurch, there were excellent bowling figures for Freeman (3-7) and Field (2-5). Whitchurch win.
