YOUNG people in Okehampton are being encouraged to pick up their cameras and use their imagination to create photographs capturing the way they see the town. The photographic competition was launched at last week?s Okehampton Show. Those entering will have their work displayed in a new exhibition at the Museum of Dartmoor Life in West Street. The competition is open to two age groups: under 10 and 10 to 16-year-olds. All participants must choose one of two categories: 1) ?A Day in the life of . . . ? A maximum of six photographs can be submitted by each entrant. The photographs can be of a family member, friend or the entrant themselves, and should capture the activities they get up to in a day, such as shopping, working or sporting activities. 2) ?As I see Okehampton? In this category, the student can use a maximum of three photographs to depict what they think of Okehampton. Whether they view it in terms of the green of the moor or the commercial hub of Fore Street is up to the individual. All participants must get their photographs to the museum by mid-September. The competition will then be judged by a panel of local photographers. There will be a display of competitors? work in the museum during October. All photographs will be kept as part of the social history archive. If you would like your photographs back, they need to be collected from the museum by the end of September. Ryan Windsor, from Okehampton, who currently volunteers at the museum, said: ?The competition is a great idea and I cannot wait to see the new exhibition this competition will bring to the museum.? Among the prizes being donated are items from Millennium Music and Games Galore 2000. A one-year membership to Okehampton Camera Club and a family membership to the Museum of Dartmoor Life are also up for grabs. To pick up an entry form, visit the museum.
