A NEW shield was presented to the Tavyside Patients Association recently which will be used for the winners of their young photographer of the year competition this month.

Eric Reynolds presented the shield to the association, which will be used to record the names of the annual overall winners.

The shield is to be called the Maureen Reynolds Trophy and displayed in the health centre.

Eric's wife Maureen, who spent 30 years as a committee member of Stannary, Wharfside and Tavyside patients associations, lost her 10-year cancer battle earlier this year.

During her time on the committees, her energy, foresight and hard work for the surgeries, especially young people, was recognised by all who worked with her.

Eric said that she would be particularly pleased to be associated with this competition for children and young people.

As they are not being judged on technical ability alone, organisers are hoping to receive lots of photographs from youngsters in the three age groups of four to seven, eight to 11 and 12 to 16 years.

As well as the shield, there will be 12 medals for the winners of each category in each age group and prizes for the overall winners of the four categories.

Dartmoor Photographic in Tavistock is providing enlarged, professionally produced copies of the photographs of the overall winners in each age group, to be mounted on aluminium and displayed in the health centre.

Organisers hope that youngsters, whether patients at the health centre or not, will get snapping throughout the summer holidays and send in their photographs between August 5 and September 3.
