Hatherleigh Town 4
Sidmouth Town 1
ON a wet and windy afternoon, Hatherleigh followed their 3-0 victory away at Feniton the previous week, with a comprehensive home win.
The visitors lost possession immediately from the kick-off and Hatherleigh took control.
Five flowing passes were followed by an excellent strike from Simon James which crashed against the bar.
He then duly stroked the rebound past the stranded keeper.
Within five minutes of the restart, James grabbed his second. He pressured the centre half into losing possession then sprinted away with the ball to blast past the keeper.
Sidmouth looked shocked, but did not give. they lifted their game, and looked to attack the Hatherleigh defence.
From a counter-attack, Ward put a delightful cross into the penalty box, which was half cleared and landed at the feet of Neil Vernon, who grabbed his second goal in consecutive matches.
Sidmouth grabbed a deserved consolation with 20 minutes to go.
Paul Harris, who had an excellent game up front, for the injured Simon White, was replaced by 16-year-old Sam Woolacott, who made his debut following a tremendous season with the reserves.
Reserve team manager, Kevin Cockwell said after the game: 'It is rewarding when you see a player of Sam's quality work his way into the first team.
'We have a good group of youngsters in the second team, now all pushing for a first team place.'
This Saturday away to Witheridge, kick-off 3pm.
