ALMOST 600 primary school children from West Devon will be taught potentially life-saving new skills next month.
The youngsters from 27 schools across the borough will attend Junior Life Skills 2003 at Okehampton Army Training Camp from September 5 to September 12.
The 10 and 11-year-olds will be faced with ten different simulated emergency scenarios which they may encounter in real life.
Under the guidance of trained experts, they will be taught how to cope.
The event, which is organised by West Devon Borough Council, also aims to help the youngsters recognise danger and take the appropriate course of action.
Nick Payne, the borough environmental services officer, said: ?Junior Life Skills is a challenge and great fun, which is a perfect combination for children to learn some important messages.
?It?s important to teach children how to avoid becoming victims and to learn how to be good citizens.?
Organisations taking part include the Army and Landmarc Support Services, Police, Devon Fire and Rescue Service, Duchy College, Devon Youth Association and West Devon?s Environmental Services.
