Gunnislake reserves 5

AFC Bodmin 1

DESPITE the convincing winning scoreline for the home team, this was a match that throughout was well and fairly contested. Both sides played good football producing several neat and incisive moves, with referee Sean Edge playing his part to keep the game flowing.

Gunnislake started brightly and without dominating were the better side for the most part of the first half. From the several chances and openings created they scored three times in the opening 45 minutes to go in to the interval with a 3-0 lead.

All three goals came from 16 year-olds with Glenn Tremblett and Ryan James each finding the target with well struck efforts from 20 yards; centre half Ryan Lowton, having come forward for a set play, also heading home from six yards.

Bodmin upped their game from the start of the second half and were on top for some 20 minutes. Gunnislake were grateful to keeper Bradley Agar who made a few good saves and dealt with several balls in to the penalty area. Eventually Bodmin's pressure resulted in a goal on 65 minutes with a penalty from Matt Hopper.

Five minutes later Gunnislake grabbed a fourth goal to leave the visitors deflated. Tremblett's and Ben Farrar's persistence to hassle the Bodmin defence resulted in the latter not clearing the ball leaving Tremblett to tap home from close range. Soon after Matt Rowan-Parker headed home from close range.

This was a much deserved first competitive win for Gunnislake's newly formed team.

There was more good news as Gunnislake's premier division side returned from St Mawgan having won 2-4 with goals from Jamie Dewdney, Kieran Jasper, Steve Vanstone and Stuart Wakenshaw.
