CHILDREN from a West Devon nursery school were welcomed through the gates of the Devon National Farmers' Union chairman's farm recently.
David Horton opened his farm gate to children of Penmoor Nursery School, Yelverton, as part of their 'jobs' week.
Thirty-five children, aged two to four years old, and parents, discovered what the role of a dairy farmer entails.
Children watched a 'magic show' by David, who showed how to turn grass into milk using a cow, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the children and adults who were then able to sample all the products that milk can be turned into.
The visit also included getting up close to growing grass, gathering the cows from the field for milking, watching them being milked and tasting milk that had already been processed, feeding the calves and visiting the piglets, chicks and ducklings.
