YOUNGER readers of the Times will be aware of the activities of the Rotary Club of Tavistock, if only in the form of grown men dressed as Father Christmas. However, the existence of the Rotaract Club of Tavistock, is probably less well known.

The Rotaract club, for those aged between 18 and 30, observes Rotary ideals, but it is a relatively new organisation in Tavistock, having received its charter some three years ago, although it had been functioning for some time before this.

Because the age limit is 30 and a number of members are now on the borderline there is an urgent need to recruit,

Rotaract clubs in Great Britain and Ireland have many worthy projects. The clubs have raised £50,000 for the Macmillan Appeal, provided an eye hospital in East Africa and have contributed to the massive Rotary campaign worldwide to eradicate polio within the next two or three years.

There is also the social aspect of club life. Regular meetings are held in Tavistock, but Rotaract is worldwide in 120 countries and international exchanges and overseas projects to Malawi and Tanzania have involved Rotaractors from our local Rotary district in recent years.

The Times has at its 42 Brook Street office in Tavistock some leaflets providing the facts about Rotaract, so if you are aged between 18 and 30 and you'd like to find out more, please pick up a leaflet.

It you'd like to attend a meeting then contact Rotarian David Hicks on Tavistock 614967.
