WHEN youngsters of Buckland Monachorum Junior Cricket Club were thinking about which charity to help, they were certainly not stumped for an answer.
'The Bucks,' as they are known, decided that the most fitting charity to benefit, alongside their fundraising efforts towards a new pavilion and equipment, was Children's Hospice South West.
During the season the children and parents have been busy on and off the pitch with various fundraising events including cake sales, quizzes, children's bingo and a 'party at the pitch.
After their efforts the young cricketers were delighted to meet up with a special representative of Children's Hospice South West — Somerset Cricket Club opener Marcus Trescothick.
At the club's home ground in Taunton they handed over a bumper cheque of £1,755 to the former England player.
Donna Talbott and Victoria McLuskie from the 'Ladies Bucks' fundraisers said: 'We are delighted to have achieved this amount and support for such a worthwhile cause.
'We would like to thank the children, parents and all the local community for all there fantastic support.'
Judy Pride, community fundraiser for CHSWest, added: 'It is so special when a group of children and their families choose to support Children's Hospice South West, as it reminds us all that it could be any local family that may need our hospices.
'The Buckland Monachorum Youth Cricket Club have been the most understanding and enthusiastic group I have worked with for a long time and it came as no surprise — with all the work they put into their fundraising — that they are able to present us with such a wonderful amount.
'We can't thank them all enough!'
