Duchy Premier Cup Gunnislake 3 St Austell 2 DEFENDER Mark Dewhirst returned from injury and took his place in the starting line up. Andy Wakem was unavailable due to work commitments so the versatile Dean Martin was pushed forward from defence to the front line. Both sides probed in the opening 20 minutes but defences were on top and only one chance was created. This came for Gunnislake when Mark Warwick played a long ball in to the channels that Martin centred but Jarryd Kelly?s effort was saved. In the 20th minute Gunnislake created a second opening and scored. Ian Gray played a good ball to Jarryd Kelly and when he centred to Martin the makeshift forward showed composure to control the ball and then stroke it past the advancing keeper. Saints had the better of the opening 20 minutes in the second period and took advantage of a poor passage of play from Gunnislake to score twice. Gunnislake struggled to get their game going but eventually did and levelled with just 10 minutes remaining. Matt Avery did well to turn his marker and then centred for Jarryd Kelly to score from close range. The game looked to be heading in to extra time but with 2 minutes remaining Steff Kelly played a good through ball on to which Dave Yorath ran to calmly round the keeper and score. It?s back to league action this Saturday when Sticker visit Gunnislake for a 2.30pm kick off.
