Devon seconds B

Abbotskerswell seconds v Yelverton seconds

YELVERTON skipper Chris Pearson put Abbotskerswell into bat first on the damp surface.  The game was reduced to 37 overs a side after heavy rain.

Tony Carter (1-20 off 11) and skipper Chris Pearson (2-13 off 11) found conditions to their liking and bowled unchanged and after 22 overs, Abbotskerswell had struggled to 34-3.  Some great close fielding particularly by U14 player Ben Pearson backed up the bowlers.  Pearson junior made a superb dive and stop to run-out H Crocker.

Abbotskerswell's Shaun Green held the innings together with 61 before he was seventh man out on 126.  Useful contributions from Codd (14) and Manners-Chapman (21not out) saw the visitors end up with 132-7 when the overs ran out.  Jez Stokes bowled for 2-44 and Dom Rushton 1-40.  Rushton also took two superb diving catches.

In reply, Yelverton started slowly and Andy Taylor (3), Pete Garland (9) and Ash Phillips (3) all fell cheaply to leave the Bohemians on 18-3.  A fine 80 wicket partnership for the fourth wicket between Gerry Keen (43) and Paul Farnham (36) put the game firmly back in Yelverton's grasp, but when Farnham and Keen fell in quick succession to leave the score on 103-5 with the overs running out

Despite some lusty blows from skipper Chris Pearson (14 no) the run-rate proved too much and when the 8th and 9th wickets went down Yelverton last pair Tony Carter and Chris Pearson patted back the last few deliveries.

Abbotskerswell 12pts, Yelverton seconds 7pts.
