A BUDDING chef from Yelverton cooked up a storm and impressed judges to reach the final five of this year’s series of BBC’s Masterchef.

Thomas Elson-Knight was knocked out of the competition on Tuesday night but proved he is a force to be reckoned with in the kitchen after his performance on the show, which culminates tomorrow (Friday).

Thomas, 25, created inspiring dishes throughout the competition, impressing celebrity judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode, along with guest judges and food critics.

Some of the challenges the contestants faced included preparing a full lunch service at Ella Canta in London’s Mayfair, taking part in a mass-catering event at Glyndebourne Opera House in Sussex and having their cooking scrutinised by five of the country’s top restaurant critics.

Having always had a passion for cooking, Thomas, who works for his family’s business importing stone, was encouraged to apply for the TV show by his family and friends.
