THE golfing season has started in earnest for the ladies of Yelverton Golf Club. They have played four matches recently as well as the normal club competitions.
The ladies played three away matches in the Devon League, against Holsworthy, Dartmouth and Ilfracombe. In total they gained 21 points and conceded 22.
One Sheelagh Creasy match has been played against Saunton at home, which after tenacious play they lost six matches to one.
The rescheduled March medal competition was played on April 4. The silver division was won by Rosie Ring with a net 77, Kay Creaven was second with a net 78, and Anne Ashley was third with a net 78.
The bronze division was won by Pat Taylor with a net 76, Penny Hunter was second with a net 77, and Anne Medhurst was third with a net 80. Penny Hunter was the only player to do a hole in two shots.
The April stableford was played on April 18. The silver division was won by Marie Watson with 38 points, second was Anne Ashley with 33 points and third was Kay Creaven with 33 points.
The bronze division was won by Lyn Alderman with 34 points, second was Penny Hunter with 33 points and third was Julie Percy with 33 points.
Overall winner of the competition was Marie Watson who won the Dame Hannah Rogers Salver.
Petty Hunter and Annette Sweeney both did a hole in two shots.
The Yelverton bronze open was held on April 25, a lovely day with excellent prizes. The silver open is being organised on Thursday May 23 and there are still a few vacancies. Contact the ladies' secretary for details.
Laura Eastwood, Gillie Jarvis and Belinda McSherry competed in the county championships, which were held at Thurlestone last week.
