EXETER Samaritans are marking the start of the ?Year of the Volunteer? with an open evening on Tuesday, January 18, designed to inspire all those who have been thinking about taking up voluntary work but have never got round to it. A spokesperson for Exeter, Mid and East Devon Samaritans, said: ?January is traditionally the time when we make resolutions one day and break them the next. ?This year we are hoping that more people than ever will take up the challenge to start something new. Working as a Samaritan can be hugely satisfying: it gives personal insight, opens up horizons and provides new opportunities.? Volunteers share the responsibility for answering the phones, responding to e-mails and seeing callers face to face. They also take the message out into the wider community, giving talks and workshops, training and supporting the Listeners in Exeter Prison and raising funds in a variety of ways. Anyone interested is invited to attend the open evening on January 18, at 10 Richmond Road, starting at 7.30pm, or contact 01392 411711.
