RICHARD Digance, a singer of comedy folk songs and teller of nonsense poems, takes to the stage in The Wharf, Tavistock next month. A unique performer, has held shows for an audience of eight in the Falkland Islands ? and to half a million with The Beach Boys at Knebworth. Over the last 30 years, there have been many other highlights in his career, leading to a Gold Award from the British Academy of Songwriters; a Sony Radio Award and a BAFTA nomination. Richard has remained one of Britain?s favourite and most versatile entertainers, despite changing fashions in both comedy and music. While other artists have come and gone, Richard?s one-man shows (performed with just a guitar) have won him world-wide acclaim ? he recently appeared at the Dubai Comedy Festival. His writing skills have resulted in numerous books, plays and film scripts. He has also composed more than 600 songs for radio shows. For more than 25 years, Richard?s guitar duets with such stars as Brian May of Queen; Status Quo and The Moody Blues were favourites with television audiences. He worked in America with Steve Martin and he has also appeared with Tom Jones, Jim Davidson and David Essex. For several years, he was a regular contributor to the television word-quiz show, ?Countdown?. This evergreen entertainer will perform live at The Wharf, Tavistock on October 9.
