A COOKERY workshop to inspire children to become inquisitive and interested by food is coming to Okehampton next month.
The project is aimed at secondary and primary school children, in particular those who might not have considered cooking as an exciting, social option.
The Cutting Edge Kitchen workshops were set up by two Okehampton women last autumn.
Founder Natacha Du Pont De Bie, said: 'It all started off when we started cooking in friends' houses and it grew from there.
'We were invited to the Love Food festival in Bristol at Christmas to provide a diversion for the children.
'The workshop was immensely popular and allowed the children to take part in a hands on, inspiring food experience.
'We created a colourful area where children could roll their own sushi maki rolls and then take them away to eat.'
Mrs Du Pont De Bie said it added another dimension to the experience of taste discovery.
'We believe passionately that we are introducing something new into the community.
'We want to get children to cook unusual and exciting things and really challenge them.
'The children get to sit down and eat their meal after they have finished and it's all about social interaction with each other and so the communal meal is very important.'
The cookery classes will be held on Monday, February 15 from 11am to 12.30pm at the Ockment Centre in the new kitchen.
The second will be on Tuesday, February 16 from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm at the Ockment Centre.
