SHEBBEAR College's Eco-Schools team has been working towards achieving its Green Flag Award.

The school has already achieved Bronze and Silver awards, but the college is aiming to it one step further, to achieve the Green Flag.

A spokesman for the school said: 'A number of things are needed to achieve this award, including an Eco-Code, and a number of action plans.

'The action plans include what we are going to change to make us as eco-friendly as possible.

'The whole school takes part in achieving the award, putting our rubbish in bins, and recycling as much as we can all helps towards preserving the environment.

'Since September we have created a recycling team, which includes pupils, who volunteer to go to every classroom and sort out the recycling every week, and put it in bins ready to be collected.'

Shebbear recycles many different products, mostly plastic bottles, cardboard and paper.

Not only does achieving the Green Flag award benefit the school, but also the surrounding community of Shebbear.
