REPAIRS to a West Devon church are due to be finished by the end of the month after almost four months of renovation work.

Our Lady and St Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Tavistock, has had refurbishment work carried out to replace the Victorian drains and minor work on the outside walls and the east end of the church.

The £50,000 needed for the work was raised by parishioners with the assistance of grants from Devon Historic Churches Trust and English Heritage. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of the month.

This year also marks the 60th anniversary that the church became the parish church for the Catholic community of Tavistock and the surrounding area.

Christopher Budd, Bishop of Plymouth will be attending the church on Sunday (September 30), to mark the completion of repairs and to celebrate the diamond jubilee.
