South Devon Football League division five Chagford Reserves 3 Stoke Gabriel thirds 1 HAVING taken three points at Stoke Gabriel last week, Chagford were keen to do the double and Chris Woof's first minute goal gave them a flying start. Rob Thorn chased a long pass to the goal-line, crossed early and Woof was there to hit the ball home. Stoke seemed to react slowly and it was some 20 minutes before they had a shot on goal. Chagford defended from the front and excellently in all areas and it helped that Saul Scarry showed a safe pair of hands when called upon and Stoke were held to long range efforts. Steve Brown emulated Woof's two in two games, five minutes after the break, thanks to Chadwick setting him up for Chagford's deserved second. For the next 20 minutes or so, it was all hands to the pumps as Stoke fought back. Tempers were in danger of boiling over but Chagford kept their heads and the referee, Peter Alsop, sensibly kept a lid on things. Chagford and their supporters were celebrating 20 minutes from time, when the Stoke 'keeper parried Chadwick's thunderbolt and Potter headed the rebound into an empty net. Again Stoke fought back but were held until five minutes from time when a long range strike skipped through a crowded area and just inside the far post. A well taken goal but too little too late. l The reserves travel to Ashburton Reserves on Saturday.
