Newton Abbot 2

Okehampton Columbines 1

THIS friendly hockey fixture was played in sunshine on Saturday.

Okehampton started the more sprightly and pressure on the Newton Abbot goal resulted in a short corner. A good strike from Sue Stanbury was brilliantly turned into goal by Jo Moppett to put Okehampton ahead.

Newton Abbot equalised with a strange goal when the ball looked as though it was going wide but changed course by virtue of leaves on the pitch.

The Okehampton defence were more organised in the second half with Jane Jones tirelessly running for the ball. But the heat and lack of match fitness began to affect running in the Okehampton side and it was no surprise when Newton Abbot took the lead.

A late flurry of activity in the Columbine attack should have resulted in a goal, but the goalkeeper and the woodwork prevented the equaliser.

This week Okehampton are at home to Chudleigh.
