AN international quiz involving teams, telephones and the Internet were part of an event to raise money for Buckland Monachorum's Cancer Research campaign recently.
It was organised by Barbara Greig of Yelverton and involved 22 teams from West Devon, Kent, Wales, Scotland and six from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia who took part in a simultaneous quiz evening.
'I invited as many people as I could to have a party in their home — the guests that came paid for their supper and they did the quiz before they started,' said Mrs Greig.
'I phoned around to get all the answers and we used the Internet to get the results from Saudi — it really went well,' she said.
The winning team was the Yelverton Woodentops with a score of 41 out of 50 — hostess Iris Bertie won a bottle of champagne, Theatre Royal tickets and a weekend for two in Yelverton.
Beaten into second place were the Legendary Legless Lizards whose hostess also won a weekend for two in Yelverton and dinner at the Two Bridges Hotel.
The hostess raising the most donations was Barbara Chalk of Riyadh, who won a full health screen at any UK Nuffield Hospital.
A magnificent £1,848 was raised by the event which will go towards the fight to prevent, treat and cure cancer.
