A WEST Devon organisation which supports young people in the borough says it is delighted with the response to a recent article in the Times, appealing for accommodation for youngsters. Youthwize says there is a chronic shortage of lodgings for youngsters in Tavistock ? but following an appeal to people in the town to consider offering accommodation, the organisation has had an encouraging response. Mary Fripp, youth housing support officer, said: ?We had a wonderful response from people across the borough who are in a position to support young people who experience homelessness. ?Several have asked for postal information and there are others who were generally interested ? from that point of view the article was brilliant and has started the ball rolling ? we are really thrilled.? Miss Fripp said many young people require accommodation, sometimes short-term, sometimes longer term, but because they were young, they were unable to take on their own tenancy for a flat and required lodgings in the first instance. Young people will also qualify for the Government?s single room rent benefit, currently £44.50, which can be paid directly to landlords. Anyone who would like to learn more about taking in a lodger, either on a short-term or longer term basis, should call Mary Fripp at Youthwize on 01822 612555.
