SCORES of people had the opportunity to see lambs born on a farm in Yelverton last week.

Arnold and Bridget Cole opened their gates at Greenwell Farm for a week to let the public see lambing first hand — 20 to 30 people came along each evening, including the scouts, brownies and nursery children.

Mrs Cole said she got the idea from a lambing live event on TV last year and it turned out to be a great success.

'It really was a wonderful experience. We have about 1,000 sheep in the unit and there was plenty going on for people to see.

'The visitors were fascinated by how quickly the lambs are born and up and standing and feeding from their mother.

'It was an educational event so people could get an understanding of how animals are managed and the welfare that goes into it.'
