Tavistock Colts 40 OPM Colts 3 TAVISTOCK Colts extended their winning run to four games by beating OPMs at Sandy Park. OPMs opened the scoring with a penalty after a ruck infringement but Tavistock replied after quick ruck ball was passed by Vince, McKinnel and Vanstone to winger Braithewaite. He beat his opposite number and the full back to touch down under the posts. The scores remained locked at 7-3 until half-time. Tavistock?s use of the slope on the top pitch was an astute tactical ploy and good kicking by stand off McKinnel saw a further five tries run in by Friend, McKinnel (2), Smith and Boreham. McKinnel converted five tries with a display of precision kicking which included one narrow miss in a dropped goal attempt. The threes all played with their heads and, although the OPMs? pack denied them as much ball as they craved, used all of it well. Centre Vanstone showed some exquisite touches to put the support runners away and every long kick down the slope had several players chasing hard. Prop Child took advantage of a tiring pack to crash through the OPMs? defence twice in quick succession to set up Boreham?s tries. The brothers Wadland looked good in the lineout and loose, bringing a hard wedged fitness to the team. Prop Dave Vince was prominent in set piece and open play and in support of his threes, showing good hands for a prop. His display earned him the man of the match nomination.
