FIFTEEN junior members of Okehampton Golf Club turned out to play in the Norman Yeo Shield on Sunday.

The competition was the first junior competition to be run by the new junior organiser at the club, Mrs Sylvia Caunter.

It was the new junior captain, Michael White, who won the event with a wonderful score of 46 points from his 18 handicap.

After the competition Mrs Caunter and the professional, Simon Jefferies, held a brief meeting with the juniors and their parents during which Michael was elected junior captain and Steven Hill was elected as his vice-captain.

In the men's competition on Saturday, winners were Richard McFarlane and Chris Pike with a better ball score of net 57, which was good enough to win by two shots from Roger Wonnacott and James Ayling (59) and George James and Roger Pedrick (59).

The Daily Mail foursomes produced a close finish with David Bickle and Matthew Soby winning on the back nine after a score of 66.

This week's competition is the November medal and the second round of the Stanley Bridges Trophy.
