WINGLETANG Animal Sanctuary near Tavistock is closing its boarding kennels to concentrate solely on rescuing and rehoming animals. Originally just a boarding kennels and cattery, Wingletang, which is run by the Margaret Green Foundation Trust (MGFT), took on rescuing and rehoming in 1991. With animal rescue on the increase, the centre has committed itself to helping more cats and dogs and is therefore ending boarding to focus on this. Niki Ging said it was a big change: ?Although we will dearly miss the boarding cats and dogs we are looking forward to putting all our efforts into the rescue centre.? Wingletang has many heart-wrenching stories, along with so many happy endings when they are able to rehome an animal to a loving home. Like Jasper the kitten who was brought in at two weeks old suffering from a condition which meant he was unable to eat solids. After receiving surgery to his chest Jasper was successfully rehomed with one of the intensive care nurses. ?The commitment we have from both our employed staff and volunteers is fantastic and we would not be able to achieve what we do without them,? added Niki. MGFT has three animal sanctuaries in Devon and Dorset and it rescues and rehomes more than 800 animals a year. It spends an average of £7,000 per month on vet bills and relies on the generosity of supporters. A new scheme run by the trust called ?Become a Friend? will enable it to continue rescuing, caring for and rehoming hundreds of animals needing their support each year.
