TWO West Devon organisations have scooped grants in the latest round of awards from the ITV1 Westcountry sponsorship committee.

Country Holidays for Inner City Kids (CHICKS), which is based near Milton Abbot, was awarded £240, while the Wolf and Water Company at Winkleigh was given £250.

More than £32,000 has been awarded to local initiatives during the last year by the committee. At its fourth meeting this year, 14 out of the 32 applicants were successful in securing funding.

Jenny MacLaren, committee chairman, said: 'ITV1 Westcountry's sponsorship committee helps many projects throughout the region which make a real difference to people's lives. Hopefully the funding will now mean they can make an even bigger difference.'

More sponsorship applications will be considered when the committee next meets on March 19, 2004.
