Bodmin Trophies Duchy League
Gunnislake 6
Mevagissey 3
GUNNISLAKE completed their league campaign with a win against a Mevagissey side that needed a point to secure their premier division status.
The defeat for the visitors means they need St Minver to fail to win their final game, otherwise they will be relegated to division one.
A solitary goal separated the sides at the interval, Stuart Wakenshaw giving the home side the lead from the penalty spot.
Gunnislake doubled their lead early in the second period, but Mevagissey halved it instantly.
The home side proceeded to assert themselves and take a 5-1 lead, teenage strikers Tom Pilbeam and Matt Avery doing the damage with two goals apiece.
Gunnislake became complacent and the visitors scored twice in quick succession to open up a game that had seemed all over. But this merely proved to wake up the home side who started again to play and duly secured the win with a sixth goal from defender Matt Burgess, his first for the club.
The result is likely to secure a top half of the table finish for Gunnislake in their first season in the premier division. Gunnislake?s final record from their 26 games played is 11 wins, 6 draws and 9 defeats with goals for 73 and goals against 54.
