Chaddlewood Miners 0

Tavistock U14s 4

TAVISTOCK had control throughout most of the match and with their defence playing well as a unit Webber was rarely threatened but his improved kicking allowed the side to mount numerous attacks.

Smith put Tavistock into the lead with an accurate shot from the edge of the box followed by a well taken goal by Coulston who was put through by Doyle and gave the keeper no chance.

Chaddlewood's long ball game never posed a serious threat and as McCall drove forwards from midfield his shot was not cleared and Coulston was on hand to scramble the ball into the net.

Shortly before half time Hammond was unlucky with a long-range shot that skimmed the post.

Chaddlewood gave a better performance in the second half and Tavistock began to lose their shape and play more defensively. But with both full backs Kelly and Johnson playing with great assurance and centre backs Derbyshire and Smurden sweeping up, the result was never in doubt, despite Chaddlewood firing over the bar from six yards. A strong header by Bray was well saved by the keeper who then inexplicably let Johnson's harmless looking cross roll past him to make the final score 4-0.

This fine away win guaranteed Tavistock second place in the league.

AFC Southway 1

Tavistock Town FC 5

TAVISTOCK went into this game with only ten men due to accidents and holidays so knew they had their work cut out.

They attacked Southway's goal with terrific team play but were held at bay until the ball broke loose and Paul Wearing pounced on it with a blistering shot to score his first goal of the season.

Southway attacked but the Tavistock defence was more than up to the job. From another attack Tavistock won a penalty for handball which Josh Robins put away to score the first of his goals.

A further penalty was awarded to Tavistock for handball which Conor Ayres scored.

A further goal from Josh Robins just before half-time meant Tavistock went into the break leading 4-0.

The second half started as the first ended with Tavistock doing all the attacking, but as the half progressed the absence of players had an effect upon their stamina and Southway came more into the game.

Southway were awarded a free kick just outside the Tavistock penalty area from which they scored with a well struck shot.

Tavistock were not done and from another attack Wearing scored their fifth to complete a comprehensive team performance.

Tavistock kept their discipline and support for each other which was a credit to them all.

Man of the match: Josh Robins. Manager's man of the match: the two players who were not usual first team members for their steady work.
