Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 5 Plym Valley 4 THIS was Tavistock?s last league match of the season and the final placement of the team rested upon the outcome. Tavistock opened with strong attacking play from Robynne Honey and Jo Gaspar who created numerous goal opportunities in the ?D?. Captain Fiona Dunn pushed up on the right through midfield to support Laura Stapleton and Susannah Boulle. Plym Valley were quick when attacking and scored the first goal. Tavistock could not find a way to break the defence of the opposition and despite the keeper coming out of the gaol, Tavistock were still unable to find the gap. Plym Valley used this opportunity and brought the ball back to Tavistock?s defence and again a goal was scored. Susannah Boulle and Sarah Barratt worked well together and Barratt took the ball into the ?D? and crossed it to Miller who was waiting on the post and scored the first goal for Tavistock. It was only minutes later that the forwards were really working as a team and Miller scored again to level the score to 2-2 at half-time. The second half saw a much improved Tavistock team create the opportunities needed on the pitch. A penalty flick was awarded to Tavistock and Boulle was up for the job. The successful flick allowed Tavistock to take the lead but Plym Valley were goal hungry and scored to equalise. Honey was chasing down every ball on the wing and making some good crosses. Tavistock were awarded a short corner and despite the ball coming out wide for Stapleton, she took a hefty strike past the keeper. Minutes later Plym Valley scored again. Dunn took the ball up the pitch and crossed it into the ?D? creating a short corner as it hit a defender?s foot. The ball came out to Stapleton who took a strike across the keeper and Armstrong got on the end of it and finished it off past the keeper. This final league win results in Tavistock being placed in 2nd position in the league only three points behind the winners. Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 3 Totnes 3 WITH a few members of the first XI being away for this match, Tavistock knew experience as well as skill was essential on the pitch. Fiona Dunn and Susannah Boulle were formidable in defence and midfield and worked hard to block out any major attack. This coupled with Jo Gaspar working through midfield, it was hard for the Totnes players to find the space. Laura Armstrong was able to hit some excellent balls into the ?D? and it was off one of these that Miller hit a good goal past the keeper. Tavistock continued to work hard but Tones were moving more attackers up the pitch and eventually Tavistock were overrun allowing them to equalise. Totnes scored again despite Bex Creasy, goalkeeper, making some good saves. Tavistock tightened up their game and became more dominant when man to man marking. This was the case for Julia Firth who did an excellent job of marking her opposition completely out of the game. Armstrong took the ball into the ?D? and from a wide angle hit an excellent shot straight past the keeper. At half-time the score was 2-2. The second half saw Tavistock as the dominant team. Lisa Butler made some good interventions but was soon under pressure again as Totnes were quick to go in and tackle for the ball. Numerous short corners were awarded against Tavistock but Dunn got a touch on every ball preventing the direct strike. Tavistock were looking good and Miller was waiting in the ?D?. The ball came in from Honey who had been chasing down every ball and trying to link with Firth. It was crossed into the ?D? and Miller slotted it past to bring the score to 3-2 to Tavistock. With only five minutes remaining Tavistock were under pressure in the ?D?and Totnes poached the ball and had a clear strike, levelling the score line. Player of the match: Kate Eadie.
