Tavistock 4

Marjons A 0

TAVISTOCK men's hockey team extended their winning run to six matches, bringing them to a single point behind league leaders Truro.

On Saturday in the second half Tavistock were determined to attack the Marjons goal at every opportunity. They scored within 30 seconds of the restart. An exchange of passes started with centre half Phil Edwards, who then finished the move to put Tavistock ahead.

Two goals were added from open play by Jason Lovell and Nicky Bellard. Jeffery and Cowen both hit the post before Tavistock scored their fourth from a close range shot by Nicky Andrews.

The defensive trio of Lethbridge, Rodda and Costello played solidly.

This performance by Tavistock underlines their all-round strength this season.

This Saturday Tavistock face a resurgent OPMs side away.

PGOBS 1

Tavistock Second 5

TAVISTOCK Seconds hockey team are one of six competing for two promotion places in this tight league, so not only was a win required but they had to win well to help their goal difference.

PGOBs are bottom of the league but Tavistock took no chances with a squad of 13 players making the trip. Glanville was able to use the rolling substitutions tactic which has worked well over the last three weeks.

A well taken goal by Newman snr should have opened the floodgates because the team had a number of near misses. PGOBs never dropped their heads and their quick forwards put the defence under pressure and almost resulted in a goal but the Tavistock goalpost saved the day

The second half saw Tavistock step up a gear with two quick goals by Townsend rewarding the team for good passing and making space for each other. PGOBs scored a fine breakaway goal but Tavistock were not distracted, with further goals from Newman jnr and Greenaway.

Tavistock are now second in the league with one game to play. The next match is at home against Truro. A win will mean promotion, a draw then goal differences will decide everything and a defeat would be a bitter end to an excellent season.
