Devon Squash League IN the first match Tavistock?s No 1 Jim Massey took on Exonians? veteran David Hughes. Jim?s relative youthfulness and all round skills took the first two games easily. In the best game of the rubber David dug deep to steal it 9-7. Unfortunately for him he could not sustain the effort and Jim won the fourth easily, In the second rubber the No 5s, Rich Baxter and Jerry Dewdney played a close but error-strewn match. The Exonian player took advantage of Baxter?s lack of fitness in the fourth game, winning it easily 9-1. This made the match all square at one each. Stuart Cox of Tavistock played John Gray in a tight match, until in the fifth Stuart?s speed and choice of shots defeated the courageous Exonian No 4. With Tavistock taking a lead into the third string match, Colin Grice took on Zac Trope of Exonians in a close match, which Colin won 3-0. In the final game, Andy Gauler of Tavistock played John Little. Little made some excellent retrieving shots when Gauler thought he had the point won. In the deciding game Gauler?s technical awareness saw him win, and Tavistock through to a deserved win over a team higher in the league.
