Devon and Exeter Premier League Okehampton 1st 2 Thorverton 1st 1 ARGYLE get their league campaign back on the road with a superb victory over a spirited and hardworking Thorverton, who refused to be beaten easily. Okehampton had to reshuffle because of injuries and players not available for various reasons. Mark Hampson and Darren Prouse moved up from the reserves and both lads turned in good performances. Okehampton's strike force of Steve Kinsey and Adam Mortimore worked tirelessly, chasing everything that came their way, but Thorverton made the breakthrough in time added for the first half when the referee awarded a penalty for handling the ball in the area. The spot kick was calmly converted and followed by the whistle. In recent weeks Argyle have come out fighting in the second half and pressurised their opponents. They used the same tactics again and Kinsey went close when trying to chip the keeper, but the ball went wide of the Thorverton goal. Argyle got their reward when Warwick Botham made a great run down the left wing, beating two players and swinging in a cross that Mortimore controlled and shot. The Thorverton keeper did well to block his first effort, but Mortimore was alert and made no mistake when the ball came back to him, levelling the score for the home side. Argyle seemed to be inspired by the way they got back into the game and were helped by the tactical change of positions when Darren Prouse came on to play up front with Mortimore, switching Kinsey to midfield and linking with the hard-working Robbie Miller. Argyle enjoyed good periods of possession and played their best football of the game. Okehampton were awarded a penalty on 75 minutes after a skirmish in the box. The referee pointed to the spot and James Williams strolled up to secure the points for Argyle. Thorverton tried hard to save the game, but Argyle's defence were well organised and kept their opponents out. This week Okehampton are away to Exeter University. Kick-off 3pm.
