DICTATORSHIP in local government — is that what the voter wants?
A 'yes' vote will not be in the best interests of the residents of West Devon.
Elect a mayor, who will be in office for five years, with his/her own selected cabinet, and you, the voter, will not be able to get rid of the mayor for five years.
A 'no' vote means the mayor is elected annually from the 30 councillors you have elected — you have your say.
The cost of the referendum? £35,000 has been allocated from the budgets. £23,000 is the cost of the postal ballot.
Other costs are postal ballot, press advertisements, household leaflets.
Now salaries: £50,000 to £65,000 for the mayor and his/her cabinet.
If you want dictatorship vote yes for a mayor. If you want to retain democracy vote no.
