South Devon League division six
Chagford Reserves 4
Denbury Athletic Reserves 0
BOLSTERED by Saul Scarry (returning from injury) and Mark Williams (unable to travel), Chagford consolidated second place and boosted their home form tremendously.
The youngsters from Denbury gave a creditable performance but failed to bother Scarry, in the home goal.
It was honours even for the opening quarter with both attacks being subdued comfortably, although Chagford had the better of any half chances but failed to hit the target.
Ralph continued his run of form by eluding any marker and nodding home Williams' fine corner, in the 22nd minute. This had a settling effect, better openings appearing but spurned at the last moment.
Cute inter-passing, after 37 minutes, sent Reeves in to stab the ball through Borlase's legs but getting injured in the process. The big forward was unable to continue, allowing Stocks to make an early substitution.
Denbury came out the better in the second half and enjoyed more of the play. This was met by a determined defence and, again, Scarry was untroubled.
It was Borlase, at the other end, who keep his side in the game with two flying saves in five minutes to deny Cork and Forsey.
Chagford needed a third goal and, when it came on the hour, it was one to remember. Will Cork did excellently to keep the ball in play; he slipped it to Jon Scarry, whose little shuffle bamboozled two defenders, allowing him in to slot the ball past Borlase.
This goal put the game beyond the visitors and Chagford, with a bit more coolness, could have run riot. As it was, Williams had the last word with another forward surge, this time with a hammered finish.
This was a decent performance from both sides, Denbury looking as though they will be a force for the future with Chagford on good form on the day.
* This week the Reserves are home to WBB thirds, kick off 2.30pm.
