IN the first Club Shotgun Foursomes of the season at Tavistock Golf Club two juniors Will Stenhouse and Sam Jessop came in with a superb score of nett 66.5. Second with a nett 69 were Colin Nolan and George Gawman and third were Chris Gawman and Mark Taylor with a nett 69.5.
In the Artisans Bowl Chris Gawman topped division one with 38pts, second was George Gawman on 37, with Mark Russell on 36 in third; first in division two was Paul Whitby on 39, second Mike Henderson on 38 and third Gareth George on 36. With 41 Frank Hughes was first in diivision three, second Will Inman on 40 and third Viv Wilton with 39.
In the qualifying round of the Ping Womans 4BBB Carolyn Crawford and Ann Court scored an impressive 39 pts. Runners up were Jill Hill and Veronika Haydon Foster wth 37. The best 60 top scores in England will qualify to play in the final. The next 72 scores will qualify for the plate final. Both finals will be played in Gainsborough, Lincs.
In the monthly Stableford Sybil Coles was first in division one with 32pts; second with 31pts Belinda McSherry on countback from Maggie Hillman. In division two Hazel Cash was first with 37 pts on countback from Julie Harding. Third was Pat Wilie on 31; Val Facey in division three won with 38, second was Jill Millichamp on 36 and third place Kate Harding on 33. In the juniors Stableford Emmy Hoyte beat Sam Jessop and Mike Henderson to first place scoring 36pts on countback. Emma Greening was third with 32.
* A member since 1966 Roy Friend was elected captain at Tavistock Golf Club's annual meeting. Roy quipped that it was a long time coming but he was honoured and was looking forward to a great year. Richard Burrows was elected vice-captain. Shaun Kiely, the retiring captain, paid tribute to members for making his year such an enjoyable and memorable time and for their generosity in helping his charities.
