THE days of dieting being something only for the ladies has long gone, as was proved by Wilf Watson from Gunnislake recently when he won a Slimming World competition.
Wilf was the person who lost most weight in his class at the Alexander Centre in Tavistock, shedding an amazing three and a half stone.
He said he was very happy with his weight loss, but was still hoping to lose more. 'It's not a diet, it's a way of life.'
It was after his daughter lost six stone while attending a class that Wilf decided that he could do it too. He was 18 stone and needed to lose weight because of osteo-arthritis in his knees. Wilf also looks after himself by swimming regularly.
Sandra Johnston, who has run the classes on Wednesdays for the past nine years, explained that Wilf is an inspiration to all the members. He also attends the image therapy session, where he is a valuable contributor.
Members are taught to eat healthily, the aim being everything in moderation and plenty of variety, and help is available to maintain as well as to lose weight.
