Jeffreys Estate Agents Knockout Cup first round

Lamerton 3

Biscovey 1

LAMERTON had the toughest possible draw in the first round of the cup when they entertained premier division league leaders Biscovey who beat them last year at the semi-final stage.

The game was even for the first quarter and goal chances were at a premium. The deadlock was broken when Paul Cowling cut inside two defenders to score an excellent opening goal.

Lamerton soaked up Biscovey pressure early in the second half with Kev Swift and Paul Breyley more than holding their own in the centre of midfield. The introduction of sub Steve Wickett swung the game further in the direction of the home side.

He ran on to a superbly weighted ball from Paul Breyley to double the advantage and suddenly holes began to appear in the away defence. Both he and Cowling again went close but Biscovey were not finished. With ten minutes left they pulled a goal back.

With the tension mounting Wickett bagged his second when he turned in a cross-cum shot from Cowling to wrap the game up for a deserved victory.

The game was a great reflection on both teams and was excellently controlled by referee Paul Forse.

This Saturday away v Berties, kick-off 2.30pm.
