CAN anyone throw light on why the beautiful rhododendron ?Pink Pearl? which has been flowering so wonderfully every year outside Abbey House, Russell Street, has been cut down?

It has provided a glorious show of bright pink flowers every year since it was planted by my great aunt, Henrietta Hillyar, most probably in the 20s.

Dr George Hillyar practised from Abbey House from 1912 and on his death my father, Dr Thomas Davie, took over the practice.

The rhododendron has survived all this time, even when Abbey House became Drakes Mead School.

I am sure it will be sadly missed by many, not least those who attended my father?s surgery.
