Why was it made to look like a front lawn?

ALTHOUGH it was good to see the Okehampton Show on again this year, I was very disappointed to see that all the hedges, banks and verges round the showground had been given a 'grade one'.

I appreciate visibility for the extra traffic is important, but is it really necessary to strip the area of all the flora?

The day before it was cut, it was a mass of wild flowers and butterflies and there was also a pair of nesting whitethroats.

How lovely it would be if people who visit the show were given the opportunity to see the lanes around the showground as nature intended and not made to look like somebody's front lawn.
