LAST Thursday, October 6, there were two ladies outside the Co-op store handing out leaflets asking for donations of food for their local food bank. This list consisted of tins and packets of cereals. No mention of fresh veg or fruit, known to us all as our 'five a day'.
Several people during the past few months have told me they won't accept fresh veg, etc, because it doesn't keep! Call me old-fashioned or what you like but surely if you are giving out tins of beans of whatever, it is just as easy to give out a bag of fruit and veg? I find it hard to think that people would say, oh, no, thank you, we don't eat potatoes or vegetables in our house! I know I would sooner have a helping of runner beans than a tin of spam.
The reason I am writing this is because over the last few months I have given loads of fresh veg, to my neighbours and friends, and would have liked to have given a share to a good cause.
I would like to hear from anyone who will tell me I've got it all wrong!
