ON the subject of public conveniences: in other countries, particularly in France, we expect to be charged for a visit to a comfort stop. The alternative is, or was, a very basic hole in the ground.
When did the ?penny in the slot? disappear in this country?
And why have men been able to get away with a free visit all these years?
There should be equality in all these things. Why do we always expect everything to be free nowadays?
