I WRITE to ask why the county council has changed the lane priority at the traffic lights in Okehampton (approaching from the west). To cause accidents maybe!

Though a sign has been placed outside the Plymouth Inn, advising drivers of the 'New Road Layout'; unfortunately, it appears that most drivers in Okehampton cannot read! This is especially true of bus and taxi drivers.

On Saturday morning I stopped at the traffic lights. A bus pulled up on the inside lane. I assumed he would be turning left, in accordance with the white arrow painted on the highway.

Instead, he carried straight on when the lights changed and attempted to push me into the traffic island.

Monday morning, the same thing happened again, this time it was a local taxi. Wednesday morning a private car raced away from the lights in his effort to cross first.

As you can imagine this is making me very nervous and I cannot understand why it was felt necessary to change a perfectly good system, which everyone knew.

There are going to be accidents at this road junction due to the new layouts. Who should be held responsible?
