Who should pay for parking?

FOR avoidance of doubt, I neither have, nor have expressed, any objection to residents? parking schemes per se. The issue is who should pay for such a scheme. My preliminary view is that those who benefit should pay. There is a county council policy that allows for residents? parking schemes to be subsidised by on-street pay and display parking. To my mind, that would be unacceptable, unless that majority who will be required to pay the Dalek-geld are consulted and express willingness to be fleeced for the benefit of that minority who would have subsidised rights to park to the exclusion of others on residential highways. That is the core issue. I look forward to the debate and intend to be informed by it. That is why I stuck my neck out to stimulate it. Cllr Roger W Mathew
