Tamar League division A Ordulph v Buckland IN what promised to be a close fought high scoring game, this turned out to be just the opposite. The inability to adapt to Buckland's variable wicket has been the undoing of Ordulph teams for many a year now, but not this time. Skipper Whitfield had no hesitation in putting Buckland in to bat, and the Ordulph attack in the shape of Langton and Folley made scoring difficult for the Buckland openers. Only Paul Tomkies made headway against some good line and length bowling with a steady 30. With the fall of Tomkies to Folley, and Rodgers to Langton, the Buckland run rate slowed to a snail's pace. A change of bowling with Wright and Downing brought no respite for Buckland with Downing's pace and Wright's persistent accuracy all but brought Buckland to a standstill. Pete Barrett bravely but briefly tried to take the fight to Ordulph but this only resulted in his middle stump being removed by Wright. With only 86 on the board, 10 overs left and five wickets in hand, Ordulph expected Buckland to push the run rate along but Buckland seemed content to preserve wickets rather than go for runs and their innings 'dribbled' along to 116 for 5. In reply Ordulph never really looked in trouble, and a steady start from Wright and Melhuish set the scene. There was a brief blip with Wright and Melhuish falling to Northam and Tomkies but the slack was taken up by a rapid 37 from Whitfield and a robust 31 not out from Sutton. Ordulph passed the finishing line on 118 for 3 with 19 overs to spare. Credit again goes to the Ordulph bowling attack with all four main bowlers' consistent bowling turning this game in their team's favour by not allowing Buckland to settle for a second. It was a superb all round fielding display from Ordulph in particular Law and De Caux who saved countless runs for Ordulph at point and in the covers. l Next week Ordulph travel to league leaders Cornwood.
