WHITCHURCH Wayfarers U13s Colts team obtained its first win of the season against Plympton St Mary.
Whitchurch won the toss, and elected to bat, and started briskly with Josh Towl and Dan Poole putting on a quick 14, before Towl was bowled for 13. He was joined by Charlie Barriball, and Poole put on another 12 runs before he was also bowled for 4.
Barney Megicks was bowled for a duck and Whitchurch were looking in trouble at 32 for 3.
Barriball was joined by Hodges and their partnership of 51 runs, put Whitchurch back on course.
Hodges had creditable 15 runs when he was bowled.
Another 30 runs were added. Before Barriball was caught for a solid 44.
Ben Hodge and Dan Towl ran well between the wickets to finish the innings on 119-7.
Pick of the Plympton bowlers were K Vandabong 4-0-3-19 and Cat O'Keefe 2-0-1-12, and the prize wicket of Barriball.
Plympton St Mary, made an edgy start and were soon in trouble, Barriball, Hodges and particularly captain John Towl, made inroads into the batting, reducing them to 21-5, Towl taking 3 wickets for 2 runs off 2 overs, with a particularly high catch being well taken by Dave Northey.
The rest of the innings the bowling was shaved between the rest of the team. Plympton came up short by 39 runs.
Wickets for Towl, Northey, Megicks and Will Partington reduced them to 80 for 8 with a fine 29 not out for O'Keefe for Plympton.
Whitchurch won by 39 runs, Whitchurch 3 points, Plympton St Mary 0 points.
