Palladium League U17s
Whitchurch v Yelverton
WHITCHURCH U17s started their Palladium League season with a comfortable victory over local rivals Yelverton by 90 runs.
Whitchurch skipper Richard Hall elected to bat first, regardless of a damp outfield, and, not surprisingly, progress was slow. - 39 runs were on the board when Hall lost his wicket to a fine yorker-length delivery from Yelverton skipper Ross Avery.
James Aggiss came in to join Tim Watson and immediately settled in with a steady flow of boundaries. Watson (20) was next to go, bowled, playing a lazy shot off Mike Howe.
Ali Falconer came in to join Aggiss and with both bats flowing, shared in a 103-run partnership. Aggiss (47) and Falconer (45) both perished in the last over with No 5 Nick Boot-Hanford hitting a monster six-over mid-wicket to close the 25-over innings on 177 for 4.
Pick of the Yelverton bowling was Mike Howe who finished with 3 for 16.
The Yelverton reply never really got going, owing to the much tighter bowling and good fielding performance from the Whitchurch boys. James Avery top-scored with 21 with the wickets being shared around. Boot-Hanford with 2 for 26 was the pick, with a wicket apiece for Darren Sambells, Tom Stenning, Oliver Field, and Hall.
Fielders of the match were awarded to James Aggiss (Whitchurch) and Jamie Stormont (Yelverton).
