I HAVE written to West Devon Borough Council to register my objection in the strongest possible terms to the planned residential development (for 30 homes) in St Andrew's Road, Whitchurch, specifically in respect of the consequent increase of traffic flow in Whitchurch Road.

It is risible to suggest that any impact surveys have been carried out at peak traffic times as, if so, it could not possibly be suggested that Whitchurch Road has the capacity for an extra 40 vehicles or so.

For the avoidance of any doubt, let it be understood that Whitchurch Road is full. The inexorable increase in traffic over the last 30 years has meant that, at peak times, Whitchurch Road can only be negotiated with great difficulty, especially in the Tavistock direction.

I recognise the need for increased housing availability — but it should not be provided to the absolute detriment to existing residents.
