Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 3

Biscovey 3

Mary Tavy 2

MARY Tavy can go away from this match with optimism for their future this season. Little consolation as no points were gained, but the effort was tremendous.

Biscovey started the livelier and poked the ball home in the opening few minutes to startle the Tavy team into life. Their reaction was a positive one and after Paul Jeffery had tested the home keeper on three occasions Alan Grylls headed the equaliser.

Tavy were on top but were exasperated to see Biscovey sneak another before half-time.

Dominic Reeves, desperate to level, saw his cracking free kick come off the crossbar but no goals were added .

Two changes at half-time saw the departure of Shaun James and Dan Brockington to make way for James Philpott and Nick John and Tavy continued to press the home defence.

Philpotts rammed the ball home from close range for what everyone thought was the second equaliser when, with no appeals from the home defence, the referee deemed a hand had been used in the build-up.

Philpott unswayed by the shock decision eventually pulled things level and Tavy were all out for the win.

James Coole, who seemed to have relentless supplies of energy, struck an unstoppable shot which almost took the net off the posts, only for the referee again to pull play back, blowing the whistle as the ball bulged the net, this time citing a head injury from a player who made a surprisingly quick recovery when a free kick was awarded.

This seemed to knock the wind out of the away team who let Biscovey break away and score a third. With moments remaining Tavy piled on the pressure with the ball constantly in the home half of the pitch but it was not nor never was going to be their day.
