WEST Devon and Torridge MP Geoffrey Cox this week launched the next stage of his campaign to save rural post offices. Mr Cox has called on the Government to clarify which branches will be closed. Mr Cox has also sought confirmation from Alan Cook, the managing director of the Post Office, that there will be local consultation after the list of sub-post offices allocated for closure has been released and that MPs and local councils will be closely involved in the process. 'Post Offices are at the heart of our communities,' said Mr Cox. 'They serve a vital and practical function in the daily life of our villages and the current uncertainty is quite understandably causing a great deal of anxiety. 'Despite the challenges they face, local sub-post masters in Torridge and West Devon are eager to remain open for business, supporting our local communities, and I am extremely grateful to all of them for the determination they have shown. 'We must try to prevent the enforced closure of sub-post offices in our rural communities, and I will continue to do everything in my power to ensure branches in Torridge and West Devon are not lost by compulsions.'
